Senior Games

The High Country Senior Games run from the beginning of May through mid-June and registration for the games begin in mid-March.

The games are open to adults 50 years of age and better and events are held at venues across the High Country. 

The North Carolina Senior Games (NCGS) has been active since 1983 with the goal of health promotion and wellness education.  The NCGS has created a program for adults that are 50 years of age and better and emphasize the importance of staying active while engaging in friendly competition in both sports and the arts.

The High Country Senior Games serve Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey County and is one of the local games that help serve all 100 counties in North Carolina.  Qualifiers from the local games can move on to state finals if they so choose.

Sports include but are not limited to:

·         Basketball

·         Pickleball

·         Bocce

·         Swimming

·         Track and Field

SilverArts showcases the creativity of seniors with categories including literary, visual, heritage, and performing arts.
